"Your classes often remind me of a dance - there is a rhythm to it." - Irina

Small group classes are taught by Amy Block-Hamilton, Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) and Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) in her West Orange studio as well as in Madison, New Jersey.  Private one-on-one classes are also available to assist the student with all aspects on yoga including therapeutics.

Yoga develops a strong and flexible body while cultivating stillness of mind and awareness of breath. Amy teaches with careful consideration of muscular and skeletal alignment so that students learn to bring balance into their bodies.  Her skill in observing each student within a group class is just one of her strengths in teaching. The class is sequenced in order to create a sense of well-being.  Continued practice over an extended period of time creates a shift within oneself towards a balanced life.  Transformation takes place externally as well as internally.  The breath becomes calm and the mind clear.

"Your Body is your temple.  Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in " -- BKS Iyengar

Amy Block-Hamilton has been practicing yoga for nearly 30 years and is a dedicated, full-time yoga teacher for over 22 years.  She is a CIYT (Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher) a C-IAYT (Certified Yoga Therapist), as well as a Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer.  As a longtime student of Theresa Rowland and Peentz Dubble, Amy continues to study with Senior Teachers to advance her knowledge.  Her travels to Pune, India to study directly with the Iyengar family have been one of the highlights of her yoga studies.

After a successful career as a professional dancer, Amy discovered the practice of Iyengar Yoga. The weekly yoga class was an oasis of peace while juggling a dance-teaching schedule and caring for her two young children.  Yoga continues to be the perfect way to blend her love of movement with the study of the body-mind-spirit connection. Amy says, "My personal yoga practice is the primary way for me to navigate the joys and challenges of life."

Amy teaches with a nurturing yet challenging approach, giving clear instruction to inspire her students find alignment in their bodies and steadiness in their minds.  She firmly believes that yoga is for everyone regardless of age or fitness level and teaches a wide variety of classes from Gentle yoga to vigorous study for the experienced student. Mentoring teachers continues to be a rich and rewarding experience as well while helping others to find their voice.
